Till Death Do Us Apart....

Hand in hand since their first touch,
Their love so pure and their love so divine.
A lifetime together, eternal passion,
Could the lines of fate on their palms now have intertwined?

The world may have forgotten they exist
The ignorant may pass them by.
As they lay claim to the bench in the park,
Still so beautiful, in each others eyes.

Do they see the imperfections in each other?
Or do they smile at the face they once fell in love with?
Comfort in silence, speaking with hearbeats,
Spinning a web of solitude around their lives.

Might there be a fear in their hearts of living alone?
To hang on to what little they have and not wish for more.
Could love be built on an emotion so primitive?
I will need to feel the love to know for sure.

Now, life is a variable, but death is certain,
He who awakens, shall one day go back to rest.
Ash to ash and dust to dust,
From gray to black, till the light is gone.

Each has lived a complete life, fulfilled their desires,
At peace with the world and everything around.
But what would be if God were to give them a choice?
"Which one shall ride the wave and which one shall carry on?"

How could one bear the lonliness of life, without the other?
But then how could one leave the other behind?
To write the carving on the tombstone,
To have to face the world all alone.

Do you need to have lost your youth to love like them?
To be plunged into darkness, before you see the light
Is this love that you claim you feel for him?
Then tell me what choice would YOU make in God's sight?

I would give away my youth with a smile,
To be loved like this for a single day.
To touch her tears and feel her laughter,
To hold her close and then quitely pass away.

I hope that death comes swiftly at the same moment,
And they lie hand in hand, without feeling pain.
I hope that neither gets to see the sunset alone,
Reborn together to fall in love yet again.
